The National President of the Association of Solid Minerals Miners and Marketers of Nigeria (ASMMMON) Dr. Vincent Mkpu has estoled the re-engineering drive of the Executive Director of Nigeria Export Promotion Council (NEPC) Mrs. Nonye Ayeni for repositioning the Council since her assumption of office as Chief Executive Officer.
Speaking at the just concluded workshop on Driving Solid Mineral Export through Standards and Documentation for Export Competitiveness organised by the Nigeria Export Promotion Council in Jos, Plateau State, Dr. Mkpu who commended the Council for their profound role in streghtening the Nigeria non-oil export sector and the growth of solid minerals value chain, said, the huge success would’nt have been possible, but for the creativity and innovation of the Chief Executive Officer and her able leutenants.
Mr. President re-interated the need for more diversification of the sector. In his own words, “As Nigeria continues it’s diversification agenda, the solid minerals sector remains a key pillar, with vast potentials, to generate sustainable foreign exchange earnings, create mass employment and stimulate industrial growth and development of her enermous resources. Unlocking these potentials, however, require strict adherence to international standards, proper documentation, traceability and value chain transparency: these elements are very critical for Nigeria mineral products to gain acceptance and competitiveness in the current global market”, he maintained.
He therefore called for Stronger capacity building, formalization of artisanal and small scale mining operators, cluster development and export compliance education which he said are very essential tools towards positioning Nigeria as a reliable suppliers of high quality mineral commodities globally.
Represented at the event by the Plateau State Chairman of the Association, Hon. Sani Babayaro, he urged Miners, Exporters, Regulators and lnvestors to take advantage of the
Platform which the workshop provides
to align on global best practices and export readiness for the realization of the expected goals.
He encouraged participants to fully utilize the opportunities presented by the Council to deepen their knowledge on export standards, regulatory requirements and quality assurance documentation processes to enhance the credibility of Nigeria minerals exports.
ASMMMON, he reaffirmed, is very ready to collaborate with the Nigeria Export Promotion Council NEPC (NEPC) and other relevant institutions to promote responsible mining, structured minerals marketing system,and export competitiveness for the benefit of our national economy.
